How to Pack Hanging Clothes for Moving

How to Pack Hanging Clothes for Moving in Canada: Pack Like a Pro

Most of the items in your house have patterns to pack. Small items….pack in a box. Large items…pack & wrap with moving blankets. Fragile items…extra layers of wrapping.

But, hanging clothes… What to do? What Should I do?

Well, in this article, I will share my experience on how to pack hanging clothes for moving.

Hangers, Hanging racks, or Garment bags…are great options to keep clothes organized and safe during the move. So it is best to purchase them in advance.

For regular clothes, wardrobe boxes are the best for folded clothing or shoes. Freezing WINTER clothing requires larger boxes. For organized packing and to save time, I recommend you declutter your closet before packing. Downsizing is a good way to reduce the amount.

To ensure a successful move, choosing what to wear during the relocation is a major concern for relocation seekers 😀

Pack Hanging Clothes for Moving by Distance

For Short-Distance Move

For moving short distances, nothing to worry about 😀

Do Wrapping (Easiest packing method for a short distance): It’s easy! One can wrap the hanging clothes and pile them or drape them over a box if anyone wants to move a short distance.

Small to medium-sized boxes (Most effective packing method for long distances): You can use another option – packing clothes in small-to-medium-sized boxes instead of large ones allows for a sturdier base.

For Long-Distance Move

You should not follow short-distance moving techniques of hanging clothes here to move for a long distance.

Use boxes with hanging hooks (the easiest packing method for long distances): What is the easiest way to transport hanging clothes when moving? Using boxes with hanging hooks is the easiest way to move hanging clothes. This method saves time in packing. It will help to keep clothes hanging from wrinkles and dust.

Use garment bags (the most effective packing method for long distances): As an alternative, garment bags can also be used to pack and move hanging clothes. Lastly, a wardrobe box can be used to move a lot of clothes, or multiple garments can be gathered together in a 30-gallon garbage bag and secured with a bread tie.

Use a large suitcase (not the best option for hanging clothes):

Vertical positioning of a large suitcase may be an alternative option to moving hanging clothes. Note that – it is not recommended if you have other options available.

2 Most Common Ways to Pack Hanging Clothes for Moving

A. MISSLO garment bags:

I prefer MISSLO garment bags to pack hanging clothes for moving or traveling. Have a large capacity (You can store around capable of storing up to 7-12 shirts, sometimes even 15+)

MISSLO bags are made from heavy-duty, waterproof fabric. These are breathable bags, which are dustproof. You can use it for moving days as well as you can use it for storage.

Suits, tops, t-shirts, dresses, tuxedos, coats, furs, shirts, sports coats, blazers, jackets, gowns, etc., can be packed in MISSLO garment bags.

B. Wardrobe moving boxes

Another good and cheaper option is using wardrobe moving boxes. These moving boxes are also used to pack hanging clothes. Transporting is easy with the wardrobe moving boxes, but the issue is – they’re not waterproof or breathable. So, keep in mind the weather and the type of clothes you are planning to move with these kinds of moving boxes.

Shirts, sports coats, tops, blazers, jackets, gowns, coats, furs, etc., can be packed in wardrobe moving boxes.

Both of these options are ideal for transporting your hanging clothes.
